Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of the systems, structures, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Exhibit a dedication to the mission of the Church, able to defend the teachings of the Church, and be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the capacity to inspire trust in people from many backgrounds.
- Management abilities to include strategic planning, project management, and attracting /supervising volunteers.
- Self-directed and able to work a flexible schedule to include some nights and weekends, and travel as necessary to achieve objectives and meet demands.
- Possess excellent time management and organizational skills, office skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
- Be familiar with the spiritual development needs of young adults.
- Have an outgoing and approachable personality that is relatable to young adults.
- Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
- Maintains confidential information and has a high degree of personal integrity.
- The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Development (50% of workload)
- Provides leadership on the student center’s fundraising and capital campaign.
- Works to continue building fiscal strength of the student center, to include regular offertory, planned gifts, end of year gifts, endowments, etc.
- Responsible for keeping donor information and other private personal information confidential.
- Will travel monthly during the school year and more often during the summer.
- Oversee campus ministry external communication and PR. (15% of workload)
- Community Building and Student Programming (15% of workload)
- Being present, active, and engaged with the community at-large, making newcomers feel welcome and bringing students together.
- Planning and coordinating student programming.
- Participating in teaching and faith formation initiatives and catechesis.
- Establishing St. John’s as a hub for Catholics on campus and a welcoming space for all through evangelization and campus outreach.
- Ministry (15% of workload)
- Oversight and coordination of Student Leader Program.
- Support Pastor with Liturgy and Formation teams.
- Assist in the planning and execution of student retreats and trips.
- Coordinate St. John’s sponsored events in collaboration with Pastor and staff.
- Manage campus ministry budget. (5% of workload)
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- 3-5 years of experience working in a ministry-related field or 1 year of experience working in development.
- Demonstrated previous experience in stewardship, communications, and/or development; experience of setting and administering departmental and campaign budgets within a mid-size, complex organization, preferably a Catholic Church; progressive development experience overseeing successful fundraising programs.
Essential Physical Abilities/Working Conditions
- Ability to perform essential duties without endangering self or other employees.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary, static position; move or traverse within the workspace; operate office equipment and vehicle.
- Converse with others to express oneself and/or exchange information.
- Detects objects to identify proximity, depth and/or color and ability to comprehend and/or perform duties prescribed.
- Motor skills needed for equipment operation and general office duties.
- Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work at a keyboard for an extended period of time, to reach, stoop, bend, and stretch in filing materials, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in an office environment.
Additional Qualifications
- Ability to nurture strong relationships with clergy, religious, and lay leaders.
- Must be a self-starter, well-organized, be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.
- Competent in social media usage and web development.
- Ability to utilize technology relative to the requirements of this position.
- Mastery of Google Office.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
