Catholic School Counselor (Kindergarten through 8th Grade)

As a Catholic School Counselor serving students from Kindergarten through 8th Grade, the counselor plays a vital role in supporting the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of students within the school community. The counselor collaborates with educators, parents, and administrators to ensure a holistic approach to student well-being, integrating Catholic values and teachings into practice.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counseling sessions to students who may be experiencing academic, behavioral, emotional, or social challenges in collaboration with families and school.
- Assist students in developing coping strategies, problem-solving skills, and self-regulation techniques.
- Lead small group counseling sessions focusing on topics such as self-esteem, friendship skills, conflict resolution, and study skills.
- Create a safe and nurturing environment where students can share experiences, learn from one another, and develop interpersonal skills.
- Conduct classroom lessons on topics relevant to the social and emotional development of students, integrating Catholic values and teachings where appropriate.
- Collaborate with teachers to reinforce classroom learning and promote positive behavior and character development among students.
- Provide immediate support and intervention in crisis situations, including but not limited to, student mental health emergencies, incidents of bullying, or traumatic events within the school community.
- Work closely with school administrators, faculty, and external resources to ensure the safety and well-being of students in crisis.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child’s progress, concerns, and counseling interventions.
- Offer resources, guidance, and support to parents in addressing their child’s academic, behavioral, and emotional needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to create a nurturing and inclusive school environment that promotes the overall well-being of students.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in school counseling, child development, and Catholic education.
Qualifications:
- Practicing Catholic and Catholic school experience preferred
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field.
- State licensure or certification in School Counseling.
- Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational or counseling setting.
- Knowledge of Catholic teachings and willingness to integrate these principles into counseling practice.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Commitment to fostering the holistic development of students within a Catholic educational environment.
Additional Information:
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend hours for school events, parent meetings, or professional development activities.
- Background check and clearance may be necessary as per school policy and state regulations.
