Position Summary
Under the direction of the school principal, a teacher-minister is responsible for supporting the Diocese of Boise, the Office of Catholic Schools, and school parish in their mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.
- Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Possess technological skills including word processing and school related technology.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment.
- Must pass a criminal background check and complete Diocesan Safe Environment training.
- Exhibit a clean and neat personal appearance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School. The teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Help build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in, and help plan, school religious and service activities.
- Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to achieve academic goals.
- Demonstrate competence in teaching by demonstrating current knowledge of the academic and religious curriculum as specified and be able to communicate effectively with students; be able to organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student time on task as well as motivate student learning.
- Develop and use effective methods of evaluation that are related to the curriculum.
- Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; set high standards for student behavior.
- Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
- Cooperate with school and diocesan administration; work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
- Participate in/attend all faculty meetings and professional development.
- At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing school policies and regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Be available for evening and weekend work as necessary.
- Collaborate and work with the school parish regarding students who wish to get baptized and or enter the Catholic Church.
- Hold or attain Diocesan catechetical certification within three years of hire.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited institution.
- Current Idaho teaching certificate (or the ability to obtain one).
- Experience preferred in a K-5 teaching environment.
Additional Qualifications
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Diocesan ministry certification or working towards certification preferred.
