Diocese of Boise
Health Ministry Outreach

The mission of the Diocese of Boise Health Ministry Outreach is to assist individuals, families, and parishes in maintaining optimal health and wellness in mind, body, and spirit. We affirm the faith community as a place where whole-person health is promoted and supported.

The Diocese of Boise Health Ministry Outreach considers intentional care of the spirit an integral part of our focus on health, wholeness, and community. We support parish faith community nursing and health ministries in their health promotion efforts individually in each parish and collaboratively as a diocese.

What is faith community (parish) nursing?

Faith Community Nursing is a professional specialty of nursing that focuses on whole-person centered care, and preventing or minimizing illness.  This specialty of professional nursing is defined by the publication, Faith Community Nursing:  Scope and Standards of Practice, Third Edition (ANA & HMA, 2017) . A pre-requisite to becoming a faith community nurse is attending a comprehensive course called the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Curriculum.  This course  is offered each year by The Saint Alphonsus Faith Community Nursing Health Ministry, in partnership with Westberg Institute for Faith Community Nursing, which is owned by the Spiritual Care Association, New York, NY.
