Diocese of Boise Mental Health Ministry Team:
We have all experienced the mental stress and anxiety the last couple of years have brought to our world and our parish communities.
In response to a growing ministry need, the Diocese of Boise has formed a diocesan mental health ministry team that is exploring ways it can assist our parishes in helping with this crucial area of pastoral care.
This ministry team is composed of these ministry leaders:
Father Caleb Vogel,
Vicar General of the Diocese of Boise
Jay Wonacott,
Director of Marriage and Family Life
Director of Respect Life
Deacon Sal Carranza,
Director of Diaconate
Andrew Furphy,
Director of Youth and Young Adult Evangelization
Margaret Hampton,
Coordinator of Development
Jodi Goettemoeller, LCPC
Clinical Counselor, Catholic Charities of Idaho
Christin McIntyre, MD, PhD
Counselor, Private Practice
Cari Moodie, BSN, RN
Coordinator, Faith Community Nursing
Saint Alphonsus Health System (Idaho-Oregon)
The team recently joined the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers. This organization has granted the Diocese of Boise a small grant in order to more actively address and grow awareness, acceptance and accompaniment in the areas of mental health and illness.
Our goal is to assist our pastors and pastoral teams on strengthening their own mental health and that of their parish community.
What are our goals?
-
Offer education, formation and spiritual support to parishes who wish to raise awareness, increase acceptance and offer accompaniment to those experiencing mental illness
-
Survey pastors and parishes on mental health ministry needs
-
Offer regional formation days for pastors and parish leadership
-
Encourage and empower parishes to form mental health ministry teams
-
Create online resources and referrals for Catholics and parish ministries
-
Encourage membership in a local Idaho Chapter of the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers
