The mockery and ridicule of Jesus at the Last Supper, which took place at the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics, were shocking for all Christians worldwide. However, nothing has changed since the time when Jesus was mocked, stripped, ridiculed and crucified. His response was, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Lk 23:34). Our response should be the same. How blessed are those who understand the love Jesus has for all.
Providentially, during the next four Sundays at Mass, the Church will break open the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John, unfolding the holiness and mystery of Christ’s self-offering love. It is the perfect time to increase our understanding and devotion to Christ in the Eucharist.
The concluding words of next Sunday’s Gospel say, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst” (Jn 6: 35). Please join me and your brothers and sisters around the world as we commit ourselves to Him, Who is the “food that endures for eternal life” (John 6:27).

Las burlas y ridiculizaciones de Jesús en la Última Cena, que tuvieron lugar en la ceremonia de inauguración de los Juegos Olímpicos de París, fueron escandalosas para todos los cristianos del mundo. Sin embargo, nada ha cambiado desde el momento en que Jesús fue escarnecido, desnudado, ridiculizado y crucificado. Su respuesta fue: «Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen» (Lc 23, 34). Nuestra respuesta debería ser la misma. Dichosos los que comprenden el amor que Jesús tiene por todos.
Providencialmente, durante los próximos cuatro domingos en la Misa, la Iglesia abrirá el sexto capítulo del Evangelio de Juan, desplegando la santidad y el misterio del amor de Cristo que se ofrece a sí mismo. Es el momento perfecto para aumentar nuestra comprensión y devoción a Cristo en la Eucaristía.
Las palabras finales del Evangelio del próximo domingo dicen: «Yo soy el pan de vida; el que viene a mí jamás tendrá hambre; el que cree en mí jamás tendrá sed» (Jn 6, 35). Por favor, únanse a mí y a sus hermanos y hermanas de todo el mundo en nuestro compromiso con Él, que es el «alimento que permanece para la vida eterna» (Jn 6, 27).
